Thanksgiving is next week, which means immediately following the turkey-centric feasting and rampant gluttony, holiday season will be in FULL, unbridled, tinsel-faux-snow-laden swing. Brace yourselves now for the glitter, the jingle-jangle, the shopping stampedes, and of course, all red everything. From the looks of the backstage red carpet at last night’s Children in Need Rocks Manchester charity concert, Lady Gaga, Jessie J, and Kelly Rowland are getting a head start on the holiday color wave.
Mother Monster’s outfit is mostly black with a large brimmed floppy hat, structured blazer, sheer top, midi-length pencil skirt, and chunky knee-high boots. It’s downright near-funereal in our book, what with the mini eye veil and all (perhaps subbing in as some sort of break from her eyewear fetish of late), but her red stiletto nails and bold scarlet pout add a vampy self-assuredness that gives this ensemble more of a Rachel Zoe feel than widow-chic.
Jessie J has red nails, too, but honestly, they could be glow in the dark or encrusted with precious metals and all we’d be able to focus on is that RED HAIR. It’s not uncommon for J to change up her hairthough the blunt bang bob is almost always a constantbut this cherry hue is a new turn for the pop star. Jessie really could have opted for any color to pair with her black-and-white über-detailed catsuit, but we think the red best complements her fair complexion, playing well with the rest of her makeup.
And then we have Kelly Rowland’s contrast-sleeved leather moto jacket. Anything in this silhouette would have been absolute dynamite over this badass distressed jeans + black fishnets + ankle boots, but how could you live knowing not only that a jacket like this exists but you also have access to it, and then pick a solid black version? (Spoiler alert: You can’t.) Something about the pearl white sleeves juxtaposed with the vibrant tomato bodice and the matching wrist straps has a distinctly varsity jacket/collegiate feel that takes Kelly’s look from the highway chopper to the somehow more relatable bleacher-dwellerboth defiant and spirited. Loveeeee.
