Stylehawks ’round the world look forward to New York’s Met Gala every year as a landmark fashion event. Now, with the advent of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art’s Art + Film Gala, museum director Michael Govan hopes the City of Angels will have its own soiree to rival the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute ball. Judging from the star-studded and notably well-heeled attendees at last night’s LACMA Gala, Govan’s dreams may be coming true, as fashionable celebs like Evan Rachel Wood, Camilla Belle, and Zoe Saldana turned it out for the affair.
The starlets all wore black and gold dresses from the Gucci Spring 2012 collection—fitting, as the noted fashion house partnered with LACMA to sponsor the event. While the Italian brand’s latest season featured many beautiful evening designs, these ladies all gravitated toward the fringed roaring twenties-inspired styles. The combination of black and gold is as mysterious as it is regal and aids in the updated echo back at Art Deco and flappers and speakeasies and the cultural dynamism of the era—undeniably appropriate for the christening of what will hopefully become an annual event.
Evan committed fully to the wink back in time with finger waves, dark eyeliner, and a rich mauve lip, while Camilla provided a youthful Millenial interpretation of the sentiment—a loose half-up, half-down ’do with plenty of volume, fresh natural makeup, and a glowing bronzed complexion. Zoe toed the line between the two with an updated version of the pin curls of yore, smoky eyes, and delicately strappy peep-toes. Which variation on the theme do you like best?
