Sisters Dakota and Elle Fanning took a break from their pedestal as pint-sized muses to Marc Jacobs to serve as inspiration for another fashion visionary: Karl Lagerfeld. The girls were shot as part of an upcoming photography book from the Chanel creative director, and thanks to V magazine, we're able to see a few pages from the compilation while it's still in progress. The book features the Fannings, top models, and more sporting the brand's iconic bouclé tweed jacket and, styled by Carine Roitfeld, the series of images prove the renowned garment's versatility.

These sisters, though capable of looking nearly identical (see their front row appearance at the Rodarte Spring 2012 show), embody two very different stylings of the Chanel jacket. Dakota wears her blonde locks in soft retro-glam pin-curl waves with heavy smoky eyes and a dark lip, her porcelain skin and the deep coal-colored makeup playing up the contrast between the tweed layering piece and the airy ethereal gown beneath it like some sort of gothic Jean Harlow. Younger sister Elle, on the other hand, is a vision of deconstructed sprightliness. Her hair embracing its natural texture and lilt, fresh face, and daisy chain crown highlight the jacket's oft overlooked frayed, unfinished edges and wink back at a young Virgin Suicides Kirsten Dunst. Which Fanning sister's style do you like best?
