It has to be anxiety-inducing for actresses to hit multiple red carpet events while always trying to stand out and also not duplicate themselves style-wise over and over again. As we all know, it's a three-ring circus on the press line and every conceivable fashion trick has seemingly been tried. You'd think that a black dress or gown would be a no-no—too boring or done a million times—but not so when it's done just right. We were stunned by two such noirish looks recently courtesy of Carey Mulligan and Camilla Belle. Both ladies are typically style savvy and tipped-out to the HILT in the latest labels, but rarely have they revved it up va-va-va-VOOM style (well, Camilla maybe more than Carey) and commanded attention from head to toe. Looks like the secret is all about channeling your inner (and outer) VAMP.

Carey attended the Hollywood Film Awards wearing a short, sleeveless, and slightly shimmery black Bottega Veneta dress that was cinched at the waist and held up by invisible straps. With a simple clutch and peep-toe heels, it was her slicked-back platinum coif that truly vamped up the look along with smoky eyes and a confident stare. The same goes for Camilla but in an entirely different way. At an Oprah Winfrey-hosted event honoring Ralph Lauren at Lincoln Center, she wore a long, black, beaded gown straight from the runway that accentuated her curves before fanning out into a dramatic silver-beaded ruffle affair at the bottom. It's a show-stopping dress made even vampier with side-parted, slicked-back hair (TREND ALERT!) that framed her full brows and pinkest of pouts. (This bright shade of pink is officially on our must-get list!) What's so awesome about both of these looks is that it's all about keeping the dress dark and simple, the makeup natural, and then sweeping your hair back or to the side to let a bold eye or lip do all the vamping for you.
