Even though it’s almost winter and sunshine is now on limited reserve, we’d like to make a declaration: POLO should make a comeback. Yes, the sunny summer sport. There’s something so winsome and elegant about a bunch of ladies sipping champers while wearing their prettiest dresses (and sometimes hats…hi, Rachel Zoe) as hunky men on horses whack a ball around pristine green grass. Popular in the 1920s and ’30s—a decade that’s poised for a comeback come spring 2012—the sport has been making headlines again thanks to events like the recent Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic in Los Angeles, which brought a bevy of fine fillies to the Will Rogers State Historic Park in the Pacific Palisades. Everyone from the aforementioned Zoe to The Hills alumni, Lauren Conrad and Lo Bosworth, turned out in the finest of feminine frippery.

Looking lovely in pale creams and pinks, both Lo and Rachel Z opted for long and flowy ensembles to accentuate their California tans. LC stood out by pairing a long-sleeved cream blouse with cream shorts and black ankle-strap heels for a kicky yet elegant look that was all about relaxed class. Ali Larter also chose shorts in the form of a sculptural black romper with colored buttons and retro-waved hair. Actress Roxane Mesquida also went for a short black number but topped it with fall’s favorite trend, polka dots, and the cutest pink sandals and matching clutch.

We love that the game of polo can be reason enough for dressing up (WAY up) on a Sunday afternoon. Another reason? Nacho Figueras, naturally. We’ve rhapsodized about his delicious polo prowess (but mainly his face, hair, chest patch, et al) before. And when you really think about it, who wouldn’t want to get dressed up for that?
