In keeping with the late ’80s/early ’90s revival (oh, you thought the resurgence of flannel, jumpsuits, and neon at the same time were a coincidence?), the hard-as-nails combat boots of the punk/grunge/New Wave era are making a comeback in a big way. This week alone, Keri Hilson, Jessie J (now without cast!!!), and Pink have all worn variations on the classic look. But, obviously, these fashion-forward ladies aren’t wearing your parents’ Doc Martens. Some things remain the same, for sure, and the essence and sentiment, of course, persist through ages, but Keri, Jessie J, and Pink are wearing iterations on a stand-by, updated for the current times.
Arriving in a Paris airport, Keri pairs her traveling casual wear with a pair of black Dr. Martens eight-hole boots – the brand’s most classic silhouette. Keri’s twist on the trusty shoe is the addition of a patent sheen, giving the boots a shiny, new feeling. Jessie J wears a pair of Doc Martens too on one of her first days back on two feet (the goldenrod contrast stitching around the sole is a dead give-away), but J-squared rocks a gold metallic pair that laces up mid-calf. But if you think that’s high, Pink is prepared to shake up your perception. Pink’s combat boots, though in line with the OG style in all their black matte-ness, amp up the volume up the look with a silhouette that hits all the way up to the knee. The best part about this shoe trend is that this is a versatile style that puts comfort at the forefront, perfect for class and lazy weekend afternoons, AND these ladies illustrate how easy it is to make a trend even as classic as combat boots fresh and unique.
