Why DOES it always have to be flowers and circles and lines and five-point stars strewn across our bodies? There are plenty of other graphics, other shapes, other species of flora that deserve a piece of garment real estate, so why not just fork it over?? A few brave designers dared to continue blazing the trail for unique and refreshingly unexpected patterns, like the produce-aisle-inspired pieces we saw Miuccia Prada and Stella McCartney forge ahead with for Spring 2011. This season, Jeremy Scott, Rodarte, and Abbey Dawn saddled up to guide us through the next big trend frontier: ZANY PRINTS!

With this short-sleeved cactus print dress, Jeremy Scott is baaaasically saying, "I see your bananas and citrus. They've had a great run. But I RAISE you...these prickly plant graphics!!! BLADOW, SUCKAS! *drops mic*" I mean, the minute the section of cacti-emblazoned garments walked down the runway, it was all eye-bugging, double-taking, "what the what WHAT," and childlike, grabby hand gesticulations in the studio seating. Similar reactions swept the audience of the Rodarte show when this GORGEOUS off-shoulder cocktail dress emerged blanketed in Vincent van Gogh's iconic "Starry Night," except the visceral wanting was also accompanied by several reverent gasps, sighs, and a pearl-clutch or two. The mood at Avril Lavigne's Abbey Dawn show had already reached incalculable decibel levels before this watermelon print frock made its catwalk debut, but the shutters and flashbubs that ensued after this model's first steps confirm that this dress IRL will DEF be a head-turner for all the right reasons.
