When it comes to DRESSES that DOMINATE the red carpet (and we do mean ALL CAPS), the ultra-feminine label Marchesa is what the stylists (and style stars) choose to make a WOW statement. Chances are you’ve seen Marchesa designers Keren Craig and Georgina Chapman’s voluminous confections atop your faves at many an awards show. This is the reason why their New York Fashion Week shows (or presentations as they’ve done in years past) are always attended by the loveliest of Hollywood butterflies. The Marchesa Spring 2012 runway show saw Emma Roberts, Mandy Moore, and Michelle Trachtenberg arm-in-arm as well as Jessica Szohr, Camilla Belle, and Selita Ebanks on the front row.

We can’t help but imagine who will emerge from their fashion cocoon to wear the gigantic, GASP-TASTIC gray and white puffball GOWN OF DELIGHT come awards season because, really, somebody has to. Have you seen ANYTHING like that before? There’s an O’Keefe blossom on the waist for goodness sake! Sigh, we can’t even type right now just looking at that thing of BILLOWING BEAUTY. In a backhanded move directed at pretty much any other designer who makes dresses (kidding of course, but also NOT), Marchesa sent out dress after beautiful dress in everything from frothy layers, gauzy tulle, and ripples of light colored feathers. These dresses were so spectacularly GORGE, we don’t know how Keren and Georgina don’t just sit around their houses wearing them all day (because that’s exactly what we would do).

While they stuck to a predominantly neutral color palette for their fuller dresses, they did black cocktail dresses and some intricately beaded and embroidered gowns too. We also loved that in all of this overtly feminine debutante madness they inserted a model with BRIGHT PINK hair. Nice move, Marchesa! While you’re neither a trend-oriented nor edgier brand, seeing an uptown look on a downtown girl made this collection slightly more accessible to us everyday folk who walk down regular low-pile carpets. Still, we can dream of looking like sugar-spun fairy princesses in your truly spectacular creations, so thank you for always delivering that.
