Avid followers of the blog know that as soon as the new season of Gossip Girl starts back up, our weekly fashion breakdowns of each episode's wardrobe credits are soon to follow. If you fall within this esteemed category of human, then you ALSO know that Jenny Packham is a familiar and way beloved name around here. The U.K. designer's beautiful, shimmering eveningwear is consistently featured on the über-popular television series, a staple in the show's fash-forward wardrobing department. PLUS, Selena Gomez (our FAVORITE) wore one of Jenny's designs while presenting at this year's VMAs! Needless to say, we were totally amped to see what this Spring 2012 Collection Jenny Packham show at New York Fashion Week held in store.

We chatted with the designer before the show to pick her brain about the collection and its various inspirations. This season was very much inspired by the variety of girls the Jenny Packham brand dresses. "We found ourselves at the beginning of the season dressing royalty to Rihanna, and I thought, 'Well, how do I get all of this into a collection?'" Packham said of starting to design this season. "Plus, for summer, you go from cocktail parties, to weddings, to red carpet, so we came up with the idea of doing sort of a rainbow of colors. We start off with white, and we go right through to red and gold at the end. It meant that I could put a lot of different personalities into the collection."

And a rainbow it was. With silk chiffons in pale lime greens, deep azures, and vibrant corals embellished with swipes of glittering sequins and beading fluttering down the runway, I would MAKE UP events to attend in each one of Jenny's 31 looks. While there were a few embellished lace tap shorts intermingled within the collection, the standouts were her always breathtaking dresses, and there really was something for everyone: high necked gowns with long full skirts, dripping in tiered ruffles; sparkle-drenched minis; and heaps of asymmetry from necklines to hemlines. Said Packham, "We played with the hems; the hems are sort of up and down and light and flowy."

And the diversity in garments was scored by an equally varied soundtrack. Models hit the catwalk to tunes by Cults and Reptar, and appropriately, The Rolling Stones' "She's A Rainbow." Of how music can inform the design process, Jenny revealed, "Sometimes you listen to a piece of music that inspires a collection. You listen to the music, which creates the mood, which creates the clothes." Though for this collection the accompanying music came after the designs, Jenny raved about her recent musical discovery, which came as a direct result from preparing for this morning's presentation. "We open the show with one band that I'm absolutely mad about: Oh Land. 'Rainbow' was such a great fit, and she's so beautiful, too!"
