Falguni and Shane Peacock Show Dresses Guaranteed To Cause A Red Carpet Ruckus

If you see Katy Perry, Nicki Minaj, Fergie, or Kelly Rowland rocking something short, skintight, sparkly, and possibly edged in feathers, chances are they’re wearing Falguni & Shane Peacock. The husband and wife design duo made their New York Fashion Week debut with their spring 2012 collection, and despite a late start, they ended with a round of cheers and enthusiastic applause for a collection of dresses that all seem fit for a pop star. Some of the hoots and hollers might also have had something to do with choosing up-and-coming singer (and Lil Wayne tour mate) Porcelain Black to close out the show sashaying to her own song, “This is What Rock N Roll Looks LIke,” while also blowing kisses to Joan Rivers (RESPECT) on the front row.

We’re guessing the message behind these WOWZA ensembles also had something to do with rock and roll. This isn’t necessarily a collection of everyday wear; it’s more full-on, making-a-STATEMENT wear meant to shock, titillate, or both on the stage or red carpet. There was a heavy bondage influence which reminded us of the work of Zana Bayne only softer. The label also likes to emphasize shoulders whether by exaggerating them or pulling them off the shoulders like teensy baby wings. Many of the dresses had intricate yet delicate webbing, and ALL of them had vibrant COLOR. But others (NSFW photos dutifully left out) were completely transparent in the back. Not something you want to wear to prom if you know what we mean.

We particularly liked the “pirate” outfit with sequined pants, a see-through shirt, and a multi patterned coat worn with a blue sash and crimson turban. There’s a lot going on here, yes, but it seems to work. There was a show-stopping black dress with a long, sheer skirt covering a beaded bodice with a bumblebee-esque motif on the front which we could see (turban and all!) on a younger celeb wanting to mature her look while also keeping it classy. There were some amazing prints in the collection, too, one with a royal (Prince Charles?) looking face covered by an eagle. Porcelain Black’s outfit had bird feathers on it, too, (though we think in the form of embroidery), and it was pure rock and roll with its green and gold flecked hourglass-corset shape—not to mention the garters and undergarments peaking out underneath. No, WAIT, those were tattoos.
