In case you haven't noticed, Brooklyn is having a moment. Now that all the young folk have migrated across the East River to places like Williamsburg—where concrete runway shows happen EVERYDAY down Bedford Street—new hubs of creative activity are churning out all kinds of KEWL labels, music, and collaborations in-between. (We like to imagine neon striped bees with bangs jamming out in their vintage adorned artisanal hives.) One of our favorite Brooklyn-based designers is Samantha Pleet, who we can attest, in her seven years in business, has single-handedly brought the romper back to the borough. Her New York Fashion Week shows are always low-key, musically-inclined, and RIFE with looks that end up trending all over stylin' ladies who shop at the Brooklyn Flea. This season she collaborated with singer Caroline Polachek from the Brooklyn band Chairlift to provide a pulsating soundtrack to the show. And if Pleet's new collection is any indication, we foresee spies in tribal necklaces and feather adorned synchronized swimmers frolicking around the cracked concrete streets come springtime.

The relaxed presentation took place in The Highline Loft, a sparse yet airy room in Manhattan's gallery strewn Chelsea neighborhood. The crowd of lovelies sipped champagne in their best long white shirts, black pencil skirts, wide-brimmed hats, and platform booties while various v-necked gentlemen leaned languidly in the corners. The models walked one-by-one to podiums where they stood and stared out as if they thinking intensely about the bass player who wronged them. Most were also adorned in MUST-HAVE white accessories, too. We immediately zero-ed in on a khaki trench coat wrapped over a gray and white striped shirt and topped with an organically-shaped white necklace. (Were they teeth, bones, or talons? Who knows, but we'll take all three, OK?) Samantha also included some patterned bodysuits like a watercolor feathered one with a matching cape that would be perfect for doing a synchronized routine in a dumpster pool.

There was a cohesive mix of neutral-colored cotton separates in the collection. We liked this diamond printed jumpsuit with a long, white feather necklace. It could work on the weekend or topped with a light cardigan and flats for the school or work day.

AWESOME ACCESSORY ALERT! Perhaps white accessories will be a trend for spring? It's all in the details, people. We were particularly taken with a sleeveless, gray dress that had the most delicately interwoven bodice. This is an example of a dress we want to wear RIGHT NOW. Top it with a leather jacket and some kicky heels (Samantha chose Capezio dance shoes for all her models), and this is PERF for a night out.

Come to us necklaces of edgy delight! (Side note: How awesome in that green coat?? It's worn by your favorite Norwegian librarian, too. She wants you to "shhhhhh.") All of the jewelry featured in the Samantha Pleet spring 2012 collection is from Black Sheep and Prodigal Sons, who incidentally, operate out of the Lower East Side in Manhattan. (REPREZENT!) Another look we're totally inspired by from this collection? The black cut-out dress worn by the UNDEREYE-lined fairy princess who's secretly shooting daggers through our souls.
