This morning marked Felipe Oliveira Baptista’s first ever showing for Lacoste at New York Fashion Week! The designer, who just took over for Christophe Lemaire, debuted a collection true to Lacoste’s preppy athletic roots but that also took risks which pushed the boundaries of the brand. Anddd ZOMG, Twilight hunk Kellan Lutz was there to show his support for the new era of Lacoste. *swoon*

Three distinct trends Baptista pulled out for Spring 2012 were rugby stripes, layering (specifically tunics over mid-thigh length shorts, almost bike-short-esque), and high modest necklines, all which were pulled together effortlessly by pops of bold hues like cobalt and tomato red, the Lacoste staple color-blocking, and contrast plackets, collars, and pockets. Silhouettes were generally very straight save the occasional belted waist. Necklines were kept high while much of the drama was saved for low-cut backs and the sides of garments where he cut arm holes wide and low – MAJOR potential for sideboob (a little bit never hurt anyone!).

The idea of a higher neckline manifested itself in many different ways: a short-sleeved droparm mini dress/outerwear, a round-collared olive maxi with thigh-high slits, and a geometric Art Deco printed shift. And the raised neckline is perfect for displaying your latest favorite chunky bib necklace.
