It's time to say good-bye to living in swimsuits and denim shorts. Yes, folks, summer is officially over (sniffle, we know). Whether you had a vacation getaway or just chilled out at home, the sunny days are mere memories as we prepare for fall. We at MTV Style always find this transitional time of year uplifting—mostly due to New York Fashion Week, of course—and it's the thought of layered dressing and colorful scarves that get us through these almost-cool September days. But if there's one trend that allows us to capture the brightness of summer, an accessory to take with us that truly makes any drab ensemble pop, it's a red crossbody bag. Vacationing celebs like Alexa Chung, Emma Stone, and Kristen Bell all slung shades of scarlet over their monochromatic basics while overseas, and we're totally ready to steal (aka be inspired!) by this new MEGA-trend.

Alexa Chung chose a mini crossbody Chanel bag while stopping over in Sydney. We love how she paired a classic gray button-up shirt with a simple black skirt (don't we all have one of these in our closet?) but then kicked it up with an accessory inspired by her lips. Your eye goes right to it, and it makes a somewhat toned down ensemble seem modern and fun. Emma Stone traveled to Paris and was caught strolling the streets with a small yet vibrant Jimmy Choo bag. Emma's weekend basics—a relaxed shirt, black skinnies, and suede booties—look completely revived by this single accent. The same goes for Kristen Bell, who sported a more upscale, darker red leather bag while visiting London. (Double bonus points for matching it with fall's favorite animal print!) Whether it's high or low, dressed up or down, a small, poppy crossbody bag is our first fall MUST-HAVE. Now we just need to start looking for matching lipstick...
