When we see the words "epic," "Video Music Awards," and "moment" strung together in one sentence, an image of Britney Spears at the 2001 VMAs with a yellow python slithering around her neck IMMEDIATELY springs to mind. How could it not? She was writhing and dancing in that barely-there green bustier and sequin hot pants and… basically nothing else. In fact, all of Brit Brit's award show appearances, videos and sick dance moves are so memorable that we're holding a Britney Spears tribute at this year's VMAs (no more hints but it's MAJOR).
In commemoration of the tribute (whoa, stuff is about to get SO META), we decided to recreate the iconic Britney Spears "I'm A Slave 4 U" VMA performance. WITH A CAT. A spectacularly cute one. Named Mazzy (if you can't get enough of our bananimalcrackers antics, don't worry, there are more. Can you say Lady Gaga's meat dress for puppies? Unfettered cuteness alert on ONE MILLION.)
Sure, the video is cuddly and coquettish (we see you coyly nibbling on that cage, Mazz), but the best part, by far, is that "I'm A Slave 4 U" outfit recreation. Talk about spot on. Mazzy wore a shiny green bustier top with rhinestone detail, emerald-bedazzled hot pants with trailing layers of blue and purple chiffon, and, of course, that wonderful (fake) snake. Luckily, we talked to the cat/puppy outfitter/FIT-certified pet designer, the fearless Ada Nieves again, to dish on all the accessories of this fierce feline ensemble.

MTV Style: We are dying. You have a teeny-tiny baby snake for Britney. Walk us though everything that it entailed.
Ada Nieves: Well, first I bought some fabric that looked like an albino snake in color. Then I filled it with cotton because I was looking for the lightest weight possible for a cat to carry. Next, I added a wire inside of it to give it form or to pose it as needed. This way the snake can be bent and will stay formed. And for the eyes, there are two round studs painted with two colored markers. Lastly, there was a little red fabric for the tongue!
MTV Style: Perfect! We didn't get to affix the headset mic but it's adorable. How was that made?
Ada: The mic was made using the same wire, but this time I covered in a black ribbon. And the mic itself is actually just a fancy button. Simple.
