Anne Hathaway Goes Goth For September's Interview

She may have left her Princess Diaries days far (OK, VERY far) behind, but we've never quite shaken off Anne Hathaway's wholesome-girl-in-Hollywood image. So when we spotted her on the September cover of Interview, it took a few moments to properly identify the brooding beauty gazing at us from underneath a mysterious veil. And WHOA! We're used to seeing the sunny One Day actress smiling, but swathed in all things sheer and lacy for a black and white photo shoot, Anne smolders in the magazine's fall fashion issue. Forget Genovian princess (if you don't know what we're talking about, you need to Netflix some of Anne's earlier work), she's practically Gothic royalty here.

It must be nice to be Anne Hathaway. You kiss adorable Brits like Jim Sturgess for "work." You're BFFs with funny girl Chelsea Handler (who interviewed Anne for the magazine article). You're allowed to wear a Dolce & Gabbana creation as you nonchalantly tickle your chin with a leaf and drape yourself across a set of stone steps. And you have impeccable facial structure and a killer jawline. Honestly, if we were photographed from that angle, we'd have a serious double chin problem. Yep, we're thinking Anne probably has a pretty sweet life.

The feathery Alexander McQueen is fab and the way the veil is draped so artfully around Anne's shoulders is perfection. But this photo is really an homage to Anne's drop-dead gorgeousness: her full lips, her heavy double-lidded eyes, her lovely brows.

Dressed in a dramatic long-sleeved Valentino gown with a plunging neckline, her alabaster cheek pressed against a statue, Anne practically looks like she's a part of this effigy. Hmph. If we were asked to strike a pose with these statues, our first instinct would be to flash a goofy peace sign and a cheesy grin.

This high-neck Bottega Veneta dress covers half of Anne's face, but we'll forgive it because it's so darn amazing. Plus, her manicure is FIERCE.

Anne, meet veil. Veil, meet Anne.

The veil makes a repeat appearance for the umpteenth time, but now there's a flashy brooch attached to a beautiful Chanel dress to focus on.

Here, Anne's wearing a floral Maison Michel headband around her neck like a choker necklace. Note to self: Try this at home.

We will say one thing: Girl can work a corner. In a good way, wearing a sweeping Dior dress with a sheer skirt and an embellished Gucci shrug. And, in case you were wondering, visible Gucci underwear.

Oh noes, Anne looks sad, even in a belted Nina Ricci dress. It's likely because the shoot is over. Now we're sad.
