What started as an experiment in TV formatting (Musicals?! Gay teenagers? Jane Lynch!!!?) has turned into a worldwide phenomenon and a certain guarantee that the McKinley High Gleeks aren’t falling off our radar anytime soon. Lea Michele, with her powerhouse voice and dark-eyed beauty, is not only a star onstage, but she’s certainly earning her sartorial stripes on the red carpet. Instead of tapping into the traditional Hollywood steeze she has made her calling card, for the Glee 3D Premiere, Lea hiked up her hemline and opted for a fancy mini Marchesa tube-dress, with plenty of details and bunches of chiffon to add volume. It appears that Lea wasn’t the only one who kicked her skirt-length up a notch. Heather Morris (whose spot-on Ke$ha impression still echoes every time we look at her) balanced her super-short skirt (and CRAMAZING legs) with a long-sleeve, plum-colored Tibi dress. In order to anchor her silk shift, the dress had heavy metal shoulder details. Jury is still out on the heels, which take center stage thanks to her above-the-knee dress, but look a little utilitarian underneath her simple dress. Naya Rivera, who plays troublemaker Santana, ditches her bad girl persona but keeps the sex appeal in a monotone royal purple Rue du Mail dress and the all-the-rage Walter Steiger curved pumps. Though her dress is practically micro, we wish she woulda ditched her tights…it is STILL August, after all. But the understated, single-color details and her sleek hair and makeup make her look together and composed.

The younger crowd kept their hemlines high as well, though each young lady kept their frocks simple and tasteful. Sarah Hyland was the most revealing of the group, rocking a Nuj Novakhett cut-out dress with negative space at the side, and a straightforward and strong skirt line. (Props to Sarah for keeping accessories simple, letting the bold details of the dress stand on their own.) Hailee Steinfeld is a blinkin’ pro at the red carpet thing now, and she never disappoints. A loose-fitting Louis Vuitton t-shirt dress (in silk) is both summery and fun, and she keeps the length playful with a silly Jimmy Choo faceprint clutch. For an adorable finish, Keirnan Shipka wore a flouncy A-line Salvatore Ferragamo dress and matching shoes, which kept things fancy in a crisp white but playful in a big floppy side bow at the shoulder. Keirnan kept her skirt short, but there was enough movement and airiness that it looks relaxed and sophisticated.
