The Gotham Independent Film Awards were held last night in New York City. While these awards honor provocative movies that cost less than $20 million to make, the celeb looks we spotted on the red carpet were right on the MONEY. Our favorites—Anne Hathaway, Natalie Portman, and Mila Kunis—opted for knee-skimming, shoulder-baring cocktail dresses with black round-toe pumps (oh, and dark nail polish!). A memo must have gone out. Luckily, each starlet spiced up the look to make it her own. Here's how...

ANNE HATHAWAY

Anne Hathaway, who was recently chosen to cohost the Oscars with James Franco, stepped out with sleek strands and a dark floral print Dolce & Gabbana dress, which she teamed with a chain necklace and matching bracelet.

NATALIE PORTMAN

Natalie Portman, whose ballet drama "Black Swan" was nominated for an award, set off her black, one-shoulder sheath by Lanvin for H&M with a side chignon, nearly red lipstick, and a sparkly clutch.

MILA KUNIS

Natalie's costar in "Black Swan," Mila Kunis, wore a strapless and belted Oscar de la Renta LBD sans a stitch of jewelry. Talk about effortless chic!
