Printed pants are a bold move. Tricky to pull off, they can either look like a costume-y disaster or ultra-chic and eye-catching. So, seeking inspiration for how to wear printed pants and actually pull it off, we turned to style bloggers for tips on trying trousers that pack a printed punch — Shannon Licari of Dirty Hair Halo, Kirsty Barrett of Fashion Champagne and Melanie Lee of Wrecked Stellar show us how it's done. Check them out below.
Dirty Hair Halo
With her burnt orange-light brown blazer and black belt with gold balls, blogger Shannon Licari from Minneapolis, Minn., shows off some seriously cool style we’d expect to see in New York, Paris, or London. The colors on the print of the pants blend perfectly with what she’s rocking on top in a way that’s seamless, not distracting. And the best part? Everything she’s wearing (which looks perfectly crisp, new, and on trend) has been pre-loved, and is either thrifted or from Buffalo Exchange. Way to recycle and make it look new!
When we saw these pants by Super Looks on Britain-based blogger Kirsty Barrett, our first thought was, OMG leopard print trousers! Our second was, Where can we get them? With leopard considered one of the new classics, these pants take Kirsty’s look right to the edge of the latest trends. As we’ve seen with the other outfits, the key to rocking a printed paint is all about keeping the rest of the look simple or in the same color family. With her black New Look shoes and jacket and a basic tee from Topshop, she’s definitely done both beautifully. And to infuse a hint of color into her outfit, she painted her nails with pool-blue polish. Nice touch!
Born in New Jersey and now living in Los Angeles, blogger Melanie Lee certainly has the mix of East Coast/West Coast style down pat. How awesome is her super-saturated, bright yellow vintage halter jumpsuit from Nasty Gal? The print is simple and small enough that it creates a linear effect, giving the three-quarter oversize pants on the jumper a striped feel. With such a scene-stealing piece, Melanie got it right by minimizing the rest of her accessories, sticking with vintage pendant necklace, gold Kenneth Jay Lane hoops, a delicate bracelet by Fetty, and white Topshop boots. This looks screams "I love the '80s," but in all the best ways.
