After years of teasing and hinting, is a "Pretty Little Liars" movie actually in the works? According to boss Marlene King, yes!
The "PLL" boss lady joined "Good Morning America" during its 40 for 40 live stream to celebrate the morning show's 40th anniversary on Wednesday evening and dished on that possible "PLL" movie. It sounds like King and the Powers That Be over at ABC Family (soon to be Freeform) have put some serious thought into it.
"We've got some really big ideas for a great PLL movie, but that won't happen right after the series ends," King shared. "I think we'll take a little break and let everybody go off and do a few things and hopefully we'll come back together again and do something really special."
"Pretty Little Liars" is currently renewed for a seventh, and according to actress Troian Bellisario, final season. While neither King nor the network have confirmed the news, the executive producer has hinted at the show's impending end in interviews. When asked if Season 6's new Big Bad ("He") could top the show's "A" mystery, King told TV Line, "Yes. There are two final twists, and we’ve got 30 episodes to deliver them."
Not only did this confirm that King sees an end in sight, but it also confirmed Season 7's smaller episode count. Then again, maybe the reason the network skimmed the episode count was to accommodate for the film's production schedule.
As sad as we are that our days in Rosewood are numbered, we're excited by the possibility of a movie that would give fans a little something extra. It could tie up loose ends -- what has Wren been up to these past few seasons -- or introduce a new set of PLLs to reboot the series. Or maybe it's just one extended epilogue.
We're sure we'll be dying to catch up with Spencer, Aria, Hanna and Emily post-series finale, and Rosewood always seems to have a spare murderer waiting in the wings.
