Kanye West's Yeezus Album Finally Hits Gold

By Brittany Dandy

After an eight-week stint on the charts, Kanye West's critically acclaimed Yeezus album was certified Gold by the RIAA Monday (August 12, 2013).

The unapologetic hip-hop guru managed to ship over half a million units since the album's June 18 release, despite its non-traditional rollout, unsolicited leaks and limited press run. Up against Cole’s Born Sinner and Mac Miller’s Watching Movies with the Sound Off, Yeezus held the top spot in its debut week--a monumental week in hip hop--then continued to slide down the charts.

Although J. Cole's Born Sinner hit the Gold mark last month, Ye’s album eventually caught up. Now we wait and see if Kanye's 6th solo album will rocket to Platinum status or not but, without a doubt, he has shown us that slow and steady can still win the race.
