A$AP Rocky finds himself on the list of nominees for the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards with a nod for “F—in’ Problems” in the category Best Hip Hop Video, and the Harlem rapper tells MTV News that he’s definitely preparing a speech in case he takes home an award on August 25.
“I don’t know why that would be the video nominated. I thought it would probably be ’Long Live cause ‘Long.Live.A$AP’ was pure art but a nomination is a nomination,” he said, adding, “I would definitely prepare a speech and I hope I win something man, because I’m gonna say something significant.”
Though A$AP is surprised that “F—in Problems” got the nomination, he did have fun filming the clip, “being able to interact with my friends, Kendrick, Drake and 2 Chainz.” He explained that he and the director collaborated on the visuals. “It wasn’t a real conceptual video, we were just brainstorming different ideas that would look dope,” he said. “I basically wanted to bring GQ to a ghetto fabulous stage.”
If he does win, will his boys also join him on stage? “It depends on how the night goes,” he said. “I doubt with Best Hip Hop Video I’ll be able to do a lot because I don’t got a lot of clout. If I had Best New Artist, I’d have been good. I could’ve probably brought my crew, but we’ll see.”
