Trayvon Martin Trial: Not Guilty Verdict Rattles Hip-Hop Community

On Saturday night (July 13) a not guilty verdict was handed down in the Trayvon Martin trial, acquitting George Zimmerman of second-degree murder and manslaughter in the death of the 17-year-old, and the ruling has sent the nation and the hip-hop community reeling. Stars like Nicki Minaj and Rick Ross sent their love to slain teen's family, while other artists like Solange Knowles urged fans to protest and Young Jeezy released a new tribute track.

"I am in no way shape, form, or fashion am trying to capitalize off of the latest series of events. These are my true feelings and my form of expression about it," Jeezy told fans via KarenCivil as he released the song "It's A Cold World."

During her Mr. Carter show in Nashville, Tennessee last night Beyonce asked fans for a few seconds of silence in honor of Trayvon, "I’d like to have a moment of silence for Trayvon,” she told the crowd, before signing the chorus of "I Will Always Love You." Meanwhile, her sister Solange encouraged the public to go out and protest.
