Kat Dahlia Keeps It 'Gangsta' For O Music Awards Performance

By Sowmya Krishnamurthy

Anything goes during a 24-hour-long music festival. Newcomer Kat Dahlia took the stage at the O Music Awards' first ever "Live Music Day" on Thursday (June 20). The streaming event kicked off Wednesday night at 7 p.m. at OMusicAwards.com and more than 50 bands will participate in festivities before it's wrapped.

Kat, who is music label honcho Sylvia Rhone's artist, did a stripped down version of "Gangsta," an autobiographical tale about growing up in Miami. "You say you a gangsta? That don't impress me none," she sings.

"I was definitely going through a lot at the time and I'll tell you, people always have something going on and everybody finds their own therapy," she previously told MTV News about the track. "And that was definitely something where I sat down and really just vented about. I'm not embarrassed about it at all. I'm an open person generally. I definitely wear my heart on my sleeve and I don't have a problem doing that. Honesty is always the best way to go."

Kat promises a "swaggy" follow-up song. "There's definitely an evolution in my music, not just music in general, an evolution in my music so you're going to hear things that are really deep on my album and also very worldly," she said. "And then you might hear something that's a little more chilling, swaggy, vibey ... nothing that's too left." There are no album plans yet, but keep your eye on Kat.

"Live Music Day" continues and one of the most talked-about acts is Andrew W.K. who will attempt to set a world record for the Longest Drum Session in a Retail Store. As of now, he only has less than two hours to go!
