Rappers Send Their Prayers After Boston Bombings

By Maurice Bobb

Boston was the scene of unspeakable tragedy Monday (April 15) after two bombs detonated near the finish line at the Boston Marathon about four hours after the start of the race. The two explosions—the first occurred on the north side of Boylston Street around 2:50 p.m. and the second almost 10 seconds later 550 feet away—killed three people, including an eight-year old, and injured more than 170 others.  Like the millions of people who watched as the details of the disaster rolled in, with startling news footage of the explosions, hip-hop’s biggest stars joined in the outpouring of sadness and prayers for those involved and affected by the tragedy.

2 Chainz offered up one of the most poignant tweets of the day, citing the unexpectedness of the whole ordeal. “Yooo prayers go out to Boston ,,,, explosion at a marathon is the last thing u think is gonna happen,” he wrote.

According to President Obama, the FBI is investigating the “heinous” Patriot’s Day bombings as an “act of terrorism,” although the bomber or bombers and their motives remain a mystery.

"What we don't yet know, however, is who carried out this attack or why," Obama said Tuesday (April 16). "Whether it was planned and executed by a terrorist organization, foreign or domestic, or was the act of a malevolent individual. Clearly, we're at the beginning of our investigation, but we will find whoever harmed our citizens, and we will bring them to justice."

Until more information is released, everyone, including the game’s most influential rappers, remains diligent in their support of the runners and other resilient Bostonians as they try to pick up the pieces of their lives after such a devastating catastrophe.
