A picture may be worth a thousand words, but when photos of a man thought to be Daddy Yankee kissing another man surfaced on the web, the Internets could only focus on one. With so-called “proof” in hand, the Spanish-language media outlets and blogs ran wild with the speculation that the “Gasolina” singer was gay and even cited a statement he supposedly released as further evidence that the rumors were indeed true.

"I am a human being like any other, with virtues and defects, and I don't believe that this is a defect," Yankee was quoted as saying to the press and his followers, according to the LA Times.

But, according to Nevarez Communications, an agency claiming to be the 36-year-old reggaeton king's publicists the rumors stating that he had “come out” as homosexual were false. "Online blogs and social media are once again to blame for the spread of false news reports, which other media outlets have also shared regarding a public figure,” publicist Mayna Nevarez reportedly said. “The reports circulating regarding Daddy Yankee's declaration of homosexuality was falsely written by an online outlet known for fabricating false information and spreading it through social media sites."

Not surprisingly, the whole ordeal started after Yankee was asked about his opinion on gay marriage at a press conference and he gave the following response: "I have people on my team who are gay, and I respect them entirely and give them work.”

The Prestige artist went on to say that he believed gay marriage was an issue for the government and religious figures to settle with human rights being an integral part of the discussion.

Daddy Yankee hasn't spoken directly about the rumors, but one thing's for sure, the rumor-mongering won't stop until he speaks up to confirm or deny them.
