Nicki Minaj's 'American Idol' Nickname Would've Tributed Jay-Z

In addition to those colorful outfits, Nicki Minaj has really added her own flare to the current season of "American Idol," especially with those off-the-wall nicknames she's been coming up with for fans, but the YMCMB rapper revealed that if she were auditioning on the show, her name would be more of a hip-hop staple.

During a conference call with MTV News Nicki was asked what she would have called herself if she were auditioning and it sounds like she's definitely put some thought into this one before. "Young Hov," she responded. And when interviewers didn't catch the reference, she politely declined to explain. "I don't want to explain it," she said bluntly. "It's either you understand it or you don't. And if you don't understand, it makes it even weirder." Yikes.

In terms of whether she planned to return as a judge, you didn't think she was really gonna ruin the surprise did you? "Would I come back next season? I think people would rather be surprised," she said. "I like to save the mystery and the drama. I'd never give that away. I always say this and I mean it from the bottom of my heart, just that people behind the scenes at 'Idol' have been a dream to work with. I'm just super grateful to have been given the opportunity."
