Before the upcoming season of "The Real World: Portland" debuts on March 27, MTV is bringing back the classic episodes that made the reality show a staple with a marathon called "RetroMTV: The Real World" beginning at 8p.m. ET on March 22. In anticipation of the big rewind Remote Control blog caught up with Heather B, who starred on the very first season of "Real World: New York in 1992 to see how the show shaped her career.
At the time, "Heather B." Gardner was an aspiring hip-hop artist, and although she's not spitting these days, she is a co-host on Shade 45's popular radio show "Sway in the Morning." She's come a long way since she appeared on the show back in '92, admitting that at the time, neither she or her label knew where it would take her. "My label at the time, or the people around, didn't get it," she said. "I couldn't necessarily blame them because I had no idea what it was going to be either. Because of the unknown it was hard to take advantage of the platform at the time."
