Rick Ross the rapper may have gotten his stage name from "Freeway" Rick Ross, but it's Nick Cannon who will play the real-life gangster in an upcoming movie. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cannon will star in the movie rumored to be penned by Nick Cassavetes ("Alpha Dog," "Blow.")
Nick and Rick Ross even appeared in a video announcing the role. "I've been wanting him to play my role since '96,” the former drug kingpin said of Cannon in the video. “We got hooked up, I met him … I loved his personality.” The "Wildi N' Out" star added, “This is history in the making right here. We family now. We gonna get this thing right however long it take. The story gotta be told: the real Rick Ross.”
The rapper Rick and the real-life Rick have had their issues in the past, as "Freeway" Rick Ross feels that the MMG honcho stole his name and style. In 2012, he even took Rozay to court. In an interview, “Freeway” Ricky Ross explained, “We're still going to be doing depositions for the next couple weeks. The judge ruled that she's going to make this a public trial. As soon as she makes the final ruling, I'll be releasing William Roberts' [aka Rick Ross] deposition publicly.” He then threw in, “I can't wait, so everyone can see what a clown he is. The way he clowned me. He shook all the white people's hand in the room and totally disrespected me in the room. When they get to see some of the things he says on camera ... I couldn't believe some of the things he said on camera. Let the world see it.
The lawsuit continues and will go back to court in August.
