Thus far, the visuals that have accompanied Kendrick Lamar's critically-acclaimed debut good kid, m.A.A.d city, have played out like a film and his new video for "Poetic Justice" is no exception. Drake joins K-Dot in the haunting clip, but there's no way fans could've been prepared for what they were about to see.
The video begins in Crenshaw on a festive night, with a young crowd hanging around their cars, drinking 40s, smoking and playing dice, before we're introduced to the girl who's captured Kendrick's heart.
The scenes are shot in slow motion, which really helps viewers feel the chilled-out vibe of the night, but then things take a turn for the very worst. Moments after Kendrick greets his girl, gunshots send everyone ducking and K-Dot running to protect her — but he's too late. Fans are left with the haunting visual of Kendrick laid out in the street, on top of his girl, riddled with gunshots in his attempt to cover her. The phone in his hand keeps ringing as Drake tries to get in touch, but he never will.
