With this year’s Grammy nominations, it seems like R&B artists Frank Ocean and Miguel are on track to win on music’s biggest night. But the one category that never seems to get enough attention is hip-hop. With the exception of some artists getting their first Grammy nods in this category, some music veterans still feel like hip-hop deserved more attention, Nas being one of them.
In his recent interview with The Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl on "Chelsea Lately," via Rap-Up Nas was very vocal about his views on hip- hop deserving more credit at award shows. “It’s cool. I feel it could be a little bit more love though,” he said. “Hip-hop is making a lot of noise. It should get some more spotlight.”
One of the year's biggest categories is Best Rap Album, which surprisingly included some good picks, such as Drake with Take Care, The Roots' Undun, Lupe Fiasco's Food & Liquor II: The Great American Rap Album, Pt. 1 and of course Nas' Life Is Good.
Nas, who is nominated for four Grammys total, also commented on hip-hop beefs during his sit down. “Once you say it, you gotta ride with it, you gotta be true. Hip-hop is really standoffish. It’s really competitive. It’s really about who’s number one all the time. Sometimes it gets outta hand.”
The Grammy Awards air this Sunday, February 10 on CBS at 8 pm.
