It seems that Beyonce’s upcoming performance at the Super Bowl could possibly overshadow the game itself, but that’s because her fans can’t wait to see her sing, dance and be perfect (and maybe perform with Kelly and Michelle for the ultimate Destiny’s Child reunion!) Included in the band of Bey worshippers are NFL players who revealed their favorite Beyonce songs in a video posted yesterday on NFL.com.
It looks like the players were not only asked to give the song’s title but to sing a line or two. Falcons safety Thomas DeCoud held nothing back as he sang the chorus to “Say My Name.” 49ers linebacker, Patrick Willis, was a little more reluctant as he merely spoke the first two lines to “1+1”, the gut-wrenching ballad off Bey’s fourth album, 4.
“I don’t know man, you just have to hear it,” Willis said in defense of his weak attempt to sing. “That’s Beyonce, I can’t really top that.” That’s okay, Patrick, you stick to football and let Bey do the crooning.
On the other hand, Daryl Washington, linebacker for the Cardinals, gave his best Queen B impression with a line from the "Dreamgirls" hit “Listen." (We must say that he had quite a nice tone.) “Single Ladies” and “Party” also made the athletes’ favorites list, while Dolphins defense end Cameron Wake chose the Destiny’s Child classic, “Cater 2 You.”
The short video proves that the players are well-versed when it comes to Beyonce hits and we know that they’re just as excited as we are to watch the highly-anticipated performance. Well, some of them will have to DVR the show since they’ll be a little preoccupied during halftime. Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith, who will play in the game against the 49ers, said, “I’m just mad we can’t watch the halftime show.”
To get even more hyped for the big day, Beyonce’s Super Bowl rehearsal video should tide you over. Shots of fierce hair flipping, chest popping and high heels (that don’t like they were made for dancing) have been assembled for a taste of what’s to come.
