Initial reports stating that Rick Ross was the target of a drive-by shooting in Fort Lauderdale were hard to believe on Monday morning (January 28), but as the day progressed officials in Florida confirmed that the MMG rapper was in fact the intended victim.
Ross was riding with girlfriend Shateria L. Moragne-El in his Rolls Royce when an unidentified gunman opened fire around 5.a.m. causing the Miami native to lose control of his car, crashing into a building near the intersection of Southwest 15th Avenue and East Las Olas Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale. According to some reports, Ross' car managed to avoid the gunfire although some witnesses reported hearing more than a dozen shots.
On Sunday Ross partied the night away with his crew, including DJ Khaled, Diddy and French Montana, as he celebrated his 37th birthday at Club LIV in Miami. He later grabbed a meal with his girlfriend at a diner before getting back on the road. The shooting incident has now been classified by local police as "an active and ongoing criminal investigation." A few weeks ago Ross seemingly canceled remaining dates on his MMG tour after receiving death threats, but he later brushed off those rumors, saying it was due to a promoter mishap.
