No days off for Wale. On Thursday the Maybach Music Group spitter let out the visuals for his Folarin mixtape cut “Never Never.”
In December Wale dropped his Folarin mixtape, but in 2013 the Rick Ross-backed rap assassin plans to drop his third major label release. MTV News caught up with the “Lotus Flower Bomb” MC back in November and he said that for his next LP (said to be titled I Ain’t Perfect) he plans to go back to his roots. “I just wanna show range. I’ve proven a lot to my peers and to myself and to my fans, so I just want to take it back to something a little bit more exciting, when the music was most exciting to me,” he said.
Back in 2011 Wale dropped his first Maybach LP Ambition and last year he kept busy by contributing to the label’s Self Made, Vol. 2, but he’s now ready to put his all into his next project.
“I’ve got about 40 songs recorded, but it’s not coming as quickly as other projects,” he said. “Self Made, I could just hear the beat [and rap], but now I can be like, ’I don’t like the strings, I don’t like the percussions, let’s change the snare,’ and I might be doing it myself, so it’s a little bit different. It’s risky, but without risks, you’re just kicking a dead horse. I look at my albums differently than a lot of other artists. I really and truly believe in that body of work.”
