Lupe Fiasco Cancels 'Food & Liquor II' Sequel, Quits Twitter

By Sowmya Krishnamurthy

Sorry kids, Lupe Fiasco is not going to follow-up his Food & Liquor II: The Great American Rap Album Part 1 with a sequel, as he originally planned.

The rapper took to Twitter to share that his next album's title and concept will be revealed later this year. "Hello. A decision has been made that the project titled "F&L2 Part 2" will be summarily cancelled for public release in 2013," he said in the tweets that he later deleted, but rap website HipHopDX captured.

In September, Lu told MTV News that initially wanted Food & Liquor II to be a double-album. Food & Liquor II: The Great American Rap Album Part 1 dropped on September 24 and while the LP failed to chart at #1 like his 2011 album Lasers, the critically-acclaimed work did earn the Chicago MC a Grammy nomination in the Best Rap Category alongside Drake's Take Care, Nas' Life Is Good and Rick Ross' God Forgives, I Don't. "Shoot, man, it feels good to have an album with no kinda hesitation," he told us of F&L II, Part 1 last year. "I wanted it to be a double CD at first and I was gonna push it back till Christmas.

"The label wasn't really diggin' that so we kinda split the difference," he continued, before explaining how the work would be split into two. "People are not gonna pay $25 for two CDs, but they'll pay $12.95 for one? It just didn't work out, but for [Atlantic] it made sense."

Now, unless something changes the second half of the album seems to be scrapped. After announcing the new direction for his next album, Lupe then deleted his Twitter updates and told fans that the profile was closed. "The #LF twitter is now closed. Please follow @DJBusy + @SNDCLSHfor daily updates. Thank You," he wrote.
