Ryan Leslie may have had to wait a while for his lost laptop to be recovered before releasing his third album, Les Is More, back in October, but he wasted no time—less than one day, actually—before jumping on Justin Timberlake’s latest single, “Suit & Tie,” which features Jay-Z.
On the remix, the Harvard grad jumps into the lyrical fray with a verse of his own at the beginning of the song, admitting himself the absurdity of his presence on JT’s much-anticipated comeback single so soon:
“Les, welcome back, JT, heard you got a record with the homie Jay-Z/so for me to jump on it, I must be crazy/but girl they both married, baby you can date me.”
The “Me & U” producer may have been a bit overzealous with this offering, but his rap skills are surprisingly better than expected. Outside of his opening salvo, the following line really shows his growth as an MC: “gettin’ green, Man, money is the mascot/I made it to a have from a have not, started rappin’ now these ni--as gettin’ mad hot.”
The original song with production by Timbaland highlighting JT's crooning and Jay's lyrical dominance remain intact after Ryan’s 16, so no real harm is done.
Question is: What do you think of this remix?
