Slight work! Slight work! MMG rapper Wale headlined an intimate show at the Bowery Ballroom in NYC on Tuesday night (Jan 7). Now, I’ve always rocked with Wale but haven’t been a hardcore supporter … until last night. If there’s one thing I truly appreciate about an artist, it’s their stage presence.
Anyone can go in the booth and drop a few catchy verses but not everyone can keep a crowd on their feet like the big homie, Wale, did last night.
Yes, I – like the majority of MMG fans – was waiting on the infamous “UGH!” from Rozay and maybe a “they told me to get em, I got em"from my man, Meek Mill. Can I get an Amen? Ok, I’ll stop. But seriously, Meek nor Rozay showed up but MMG’s French Montana joined Wale on stage and the crowd – including myself – went crazy.
Wale ran through 8-10 of his fan-favorite tracks including, “Lotus,” “Bad” and of course “Slight Work.” I was damn-near blinded by the gold Redskins medallions around Wale’s neck. But then with all the haze from the smoke in the room, we could’ve used a little light. Moral of the story: Wale’s more than a lyricist – he’s an entertainer who has made his mark on this industry and should be around for a while.
