Queens, New York MC, N.O.R.E., thought it was time for a name change. When he premieres his new video for “Tadow” as MTV Jams’ Jam of the Week this Sunday (January 6), it’ll be under his new moniker P.A.P.I. The new single features 2 Chainz, French Montana, and Pusha T off his upcoming LP, Student of the Game.

What prompted the name change? Per his phone conversation with MTV News Friday (January 4), “I wanted to do something totally different for the album," he said. "Sometimes if you're lost, the best way to find where you're at is to go to the beginning. My mother doesn't even call me Victor, my father has never called me Victor, my teachers didn't even call me Victor... My name in Lefrak City and my name in Queens is actually P.A.P.I., it's not even N.O.R.E."

From his C-N-N days to now, the “Grimey” rapper’s new name also carries a special meaning. He revealed that P.A.P.I. stands for Power Always Proves Intelligence.  He initially entertained the moniker Good Belt before deciding upon this name.

What do you think of the new name?
