Oh, what a tangled web Nicki Minaj weaves. Six months after famously skipping out on her headlining performance for Hot 97’s Summer Jam after DJ Peter Rosenberg dissed her song, “Starships,” the Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded -- The Re-Up MC teamed up with the NYC radio station to host its Christmas Extravaganza event at Webster Hall.
The YMCMB empress’ willingness to sweep her differences with Hot 97 under the rug was an unexpected holiday olive branch considering that just a few weeks ago, she reportedly demanded that the station stop playing her records. Despite her request, station program director Ebro Darden insisted that the station would continue to keep the “Super Bass” rapper’s songs in rotation.
Minaj’s appearance wasn’t without controversy, though. Barbz who’d paid upwards of $25 to see their queen in the flesh grew restless as the clock ticked past 2 a.m. with Nicki was nowhere in sight. After DJ Funkmaster Flex reassured the crowd that Nicki was in fact on her way, she showed up at 2:30 in the morning in the venue's VIP dressed in a black cleavage-bearing catsuit.
Agitated, the crowd showered Minaj with boo's as they had been under the false assumption that she would be doing more than just serving as the event's hostess. The "American Idol" judge did take the stage briefly to greet and address fans, but did not perform. Other hip-hop heavyweights in attendance included Jim Jones, Irv Gotti and Meek Mill.
