In the world of celebrities, when you don’t return someone’s calls, chances are good that you’ll be confronted about it at the next A-list event. Take for instance Leonardo DiCaprio’s birthday party, where Robert De Niro called Jay-Z “rude” for never calling him back.
The New York Post reports that Jay “tried to joke his way out of the situation…but De Niro wouldn’t back down.” A source said that “Bob was sitting at a table, and when Jay-Z went over to say hello, De Niro told Jay that he never called him back.” Then, according to “a spy” that overheard their conversation, De Niro complained to the rapper that he was reaching out to discuss the song that Jay had agreed to record for the Tribeca Film Festival.
“Bob wasn’t in the mood to make polite conversation,” the spy said. “He told Jay that if somebody calls you six times, you call them back. It doesn’t matter who you are, that is just rude.”
Lesson learned: when Robert De Niro is calling you over and over again, it’s probably important, so call him back. The source also said that the "Godfather II" actor “can be quite scary when he’s angry.” However, contrary to the alleged drama, a source close to De Niro told The Post that “it was a low-key private conversation that was apparently overheard. It was not a heated discussion.”
Other celebs like Cameron Diaz, Jamie Foxx, Jonah Hill and Emma Watson were also in attendance at Leo’s bash. Sounds like we missed out on all the excitement – our invite probably got lost in the mail…
