“Take that, take that.” In 1998, Bad Boy was known for their all-star team including Harlem World’s Mason Betha. But Bad Boy wasn’t the only one getting their hustle on. A then-budding producer by the name of Kanye West was working hard as well, including working with Mase’s Harlem World clique.
Recently a decade old interview surfaced of Murda Ma$e and Kanye chopping it up at Jermaine Dupri’s Birthday Bash back in ‘98. Mase was asked questions such as “Was you hitting, uh what’s her name, Brandy?” and “Who got the fire herb everywhere you been?” The video interview showed a more humble 'Ye rocking large circular frames, shouting out his people in Chi-town and his work with the Harlem World.
Oh how things have changed for both of them. Appearing on the remix of Wale’s “Slight Work” back in April, rumors serviced that the former bad boy, who left the game over 10 years ago to become a pastor, had signed a recording deal with Maybach Music Group, but new whispers say that he might actually be signing to G.O.O.D. Music.
Turning heads at Monday night’s 2012 Angel Ball in NYC, Kanye West went on to be a man of many hats from his ’98 hey days, donning the titles fashion designer, super producer, artist, and filmmaker.
If Mase stayed in the game, do you think he would’ve been as big as Kanye musically? Knowing what Kanye has accomplished thus far, did you think he was going to be this successful?
