The West Coast came and represented at Tuesday night's (October 9) BET Hip Hop Awards and touted its lyrical dexterity. Featuring memorable verses from veterans like Kurupt, Snoop Lion, Xzibit and newcomer Kendrick Lamar, the West Coast cypher was a generational verse throw down over a game of dominos.
It was clear that Bay Area legend E-40's verse was especially memorable with lines like "I'm not rapping too fast, y'all just listening too slow!" and "She think I'm a jpeg, she wanna get attached." From the buzz on Twitter, fans agreed. "Lmao!!!!!! E-40 IS CURRENTLY IN THE LEAD FOR THE BEST CYPHER" shared a fan and another summed up "Yoooo E-40 just killed the whole BET cypher"
The various cyphers have proven to be highlights of the awards show. In addition to the West Coast roundup, established acts like T.I. and B.o.B. as well as newbies such as Mac Miller and Hopsin and indie darlings Jean Grae, Childish Gambino and ScHoolboy Q all participated in various groupings over the turntable skills of the great DJ Premier.
