Chris Brown Takes Over 2012 BET Awards With 'Don’t Wake Me Up'

Chris Brown took over the BET Awards stage yesterday (July 1) at Los Angeles’ Shrine Auditorium for an energetic performance of “Don’t Wake Me Up” and his hit “Turn Up The Music.” “Dearly beloved, if this love only exists in my dreams, don’t wake me up,” prefaced a voiceover before Chris emerged atop a large pyramid of neon green lights. Outfitted in metallic body paint on one-half of his shirtless torso, Breezy performed a high-energy set that included thumping dancing, flashing laser lights and ballerina dancers.

Chris snagged several accolades at the annual award show—other stars in attendance included Jay-Z, Beyonce, Kanye West, Rick Ross and Maybach Music Group and Mariah Carey who gave a touching speech about late singer Whitney Houston—including the Fandemonium award and Best Male R&B Artist honor.

While accepting the latter, Chris revealed in his acceptance speech that his upcoming album, Fortune, would be his last. "I'd like to thank Team Breezy, everybody who worked on any one of my albums. My last album that's coming out in two days...I just want to thank all my fans. It's dedicated to y'all. This one's for y'all man, I appreciate everything," he said and blew the fans a kiss.

Breezy’s reps quickly dismissed the sentiment and told MTV News afterwards that the statement was a misnomer; Chris was referring to Fortune as the last album he had made and not a retirement from music.
