Rihanna and Chris Brown brushed paths again at an New York nightclub on Saturday. The former lovers partied next to each other at SL nightclub in the city this past weekend and though they didn't speak, they were apparently sitting close enough to throw stares at each other. And, according to a PageSix source, Chris sent Rihanna two bottles of Ace of Spades Champagne.
Brown's current girlfriend, Karrueche Tran, was in NYC over the weekend too. "kill 'em w kindness" she tweeted yesterday, which some speculate could be about Chris and Rihanna's cordial behavior.
Rihanna herself seems surprised by all the negative attention she's getting for cozying up (musically) to Chris. She blasted Esquire magazine recently in an interview on the public's fascination and critique of her and Brown. When asked again about their musical collaborations — remixes to the songs "Birthday Cake" and "Turn Up the Music" — Rihanna says it was "definitely" controversial: "The whole thing caught me a little off-guard to be honest ... especially the amount of ... negative attention. Because it never occurred to me how this was going to be a problem. It really didn't." She later insists, "I thought people were gonna be surprised that we finally did a record together, but I didn't see how people could think it was a bad thing. In my mind, it was just music."
She added "I mean, if I went back to him [as a girlfriend], then that's a whole different discussion" on the speculation she and Brown were romantically involved again. "And if I ever do, then that's something that y'all have to talk to me about when — if — that ever happens. Until then, look at it for what it is."
