Lupe Fiasco And Pete Rock Settle Issues, Plan To Collaborate

The bad blood between Lupe Fiasco and Pete Rock didn't last very long. After sparring earlier this week over Fiasco's new track "Around My Way (Freedom Ain't Free)," which samples Rock and CL Smooth's classic "They Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y.)," the two have patched things up and plan to collaborate on new material.

While Rock initially felt "violated" by the loose sample and called the track "wack," both artists got on the phone to hash it out. "I just got off da phone with lupe, we worked out our difference and we bout to get it in," tweeted the iconic producer. "Gonna be epic and we gonna give Troy and hey the proper respect they deserve and make history."

Fiasco also tweeted his gratitude after the beef's conclusion, saying that he was glad everything was resolved man-to-man rather than in a public war of words. "Shout to the Friends&Family for bringing some internal closure to this," he wrote. "All g on this side Pete."

All along, Lupe claimed that he had received Rock's blessing for his interpolation of the hip-hop classic. During an interview on Chicago radio yesterday (May 22), he said he was shocked by the producer's reaction to "Around The Way."
