Three months after her untimely death, fans the world over are still mourning the loss of Whitney Houston, but none as much as her family. During Sunday night’s Billboard Music Awards, the late singer was honored with the “Millenium” award and her daughter Bobbi Kristina accepted on her behalf.
After a warm opening speech from Whoopi, who recalled one of her fondest memories with Whitney, John Legend and Jordin Sparks performed two of her greatest hits and her family was called to the stage to accept the Millenium award.
19-year-old Bobbi Kristina was accompanied by Whitney Houston’s sister-in-law and former manager, Patricia Houston, who said brief thank-yous before handing the mic over. “We thank you or honoring Whitney with the Millenium Award--we thank you Billboard, we thank you Whoopi, Jordin and John,” she said. “But tonight, the one person that should be accepting this award is the one person that Whitney loved most and treasured most--her daughter Bobbi.”
A tearful Bobbi Kristina, who mouthed the words along to Jordin Spark’s performance, was gracious when she addressed the crowd. “I just wanna say thank you to everyone who supported us through it all--not just when it was good, but when it was bad too. Just everything. Thank you so much for showing that much love, because she deserved it, she did. I’m just blessed to have been in such an incredible woman’s life, there will never be another one, ever. And I thank you, fans, everyone, thank you.”
