Wiz Khalifa Wins 'Top New Artist' At Billboard Music Awards

Wiz Khalifa was crowned 'Top New Artist' at the Billboard Music Awards on Sunday night (May 20). One of the show's major honors, the "Black And Yellow" rapper was humble as he accepted his accolade, winning out over other hip-hop artists including Big Sean and Bad Meets Evil. In addition to his fans and his label family at Atlantic Records (Julie Greenwald and Michael Kyser) and Rostrum Records, Wiz thanked God, his parents and of course, his fiancé Amber Rose who was seated beside him in the audience.

Many fans scratched their heads over just how "new" of an artist Wiz really was, given his years of recording prior to Rolling Papers. "Wiz Khalifa is NOT a new artist" one tweeted while others added "Wiz Khalifa is STILL new artist? LMAOOO!" and "Wiz is forever being nominated for best new artist. He is not new!!" Gossip hub Concrete Loop succinctly tweeted, "Wiz Khalifa is not a new artist, by the way. He's just newly mainstream."

Fans can catch the new/old artist this summer at Rock The Bells. Last Tuesday (May 15), it was announced that headlining acts Missy Elliot, Timbaland and Bone Thugs-N-Harmony will perform along with Wiz Khalifa, Kid Cudi, Nas, J. Cole and Mac Miller. The first show will take place August 18 at the NOS Events Center in San Bernardino, California.
