Kendrick Lamar has big plans this summer. Beginning July 26 the Compton, California MC will be hitting the road with Wiz Khalifa, Mac Miller, Chevy Woods and his TDE buddy Schoolboy Q for the nine-date Under the Influence of Music tour. “Man I’m anticipating a whole bunch of energy. They gonna let me down if I don’t get the energy,” Kendrick Lamar told MTV News over the phone on April 17, the same day the tour was announced. “I gotta get a whole bunch of wild mother--kers who just wanna party and hear good music.”
K. Dot last opened for Drake on the Toronto spitter’s Club Paradise tour and has gained a reputation as an engaging performer. He performed at Coachella this past Sunday with Dr. Dre, Snopp Dogg, the Tupac hologram and of course his new running mate, Wiz Khalifa. “I just seen wiz at Coachella backstage and we’re pumped,” he said.
While Khalifa normally bounces across the stage, doing phantom karate kicks and an assortment of fun dances, Kendrick connects with his fans in a more intimate way. “I like to look mother--kers dead in their eye and get the response that I’m looking for and make them believers,” he said. “Even the folks that don’t know Kendrick Lamar music, once I make that connection on stage and bring those songs to life, they will eventually be in support of the whole movement.”
Dr. Dre’s new signee is also looking forward to sharing the stage with Mac Miller to perform their collaborative “Fight the Feeling” from Miller’s recently released Macadelic mixtape. “Hopefully we’ll be able to rock that out,” Kendrick said.
Tickets will ceremoniously go on sale on the stoner holiday of April 20 (Friday) at 4:20 p.m. on Ticketmaster and LiveNation.
