Jay-Z has a reputation for letting his artists flourish on their own (see Kanye West and J. Cole) but the Brooklyn-born mogul surprised employees at Clear Channel radio station Z100 this week when he made a surprise visit to their studios to introduce his protégé and Roc Nation artist Rita Ora.
Jay-Z stopped by to premiere Ora’s latest single “Party and Bull----,” a catchy track which will likely by a summer hit. “This was all very spontaneous. We just came to see some great friends over here at Z100 in my neighborhood and we knew they would like what they heard cause Rita is amazing,” Jay Z said. “This is what radio is all about– feeling, emotion and discovering new music and artists and sharing it with a huge audience.”
After hearing the track, Tom Poleman, President of Clear Channel Media and Entertainment’s National Programming Platforms, immediately declared it a hit. “The minute Jay played us Rita, we knew it was a hit and wanted to get it on the air right away,” Poleman said. “Within minutes, Rita was introduced to millions of listeners across America. It's a great example of how radio can activate like no other medium.”
