When J. Cole began to preview his debut album Cole World: The Sideline Story last summer, during the first few listening sessions he asked journalists not to reveal that Missy Elliott was featured on his single “Nobody’s Perfect,” but obviously that secret’s out the bag now. Cole explained that he asked Missy to record a second session to get the perfect cut, and now he’s tapped her to appear in the upcoming music video for the track.
Few details have been revealed thus far, but reps at Roc Nation have confirmed that Missy and J. Cole will be filming the Colin Tiley-directed video.
Cole dropped his album back on September 27 and it’s since been certified Gold, with the lead single “Work Out” being certified Platinum. The North Caroline native, who performed as part of “MTV’s NYE in NYC 2012” special has been nominated for Best New Artist at the upcoming Grammys Awards, where he’ll face off with Nicki Minaj, Bon Iver, Skrillex and The Band Perry.
Cole’s mentor, Jay-Z, already think seems to think that his Roc Nation signee has the award in the bag. “I think it’s great for him, because I’m sure it’s a dream of his. We grew up seeing Michael Jackson, and I’m sure he grew up seeing whatever moment stuck in his mind, so I know it’s great for him to do that,” Hov told MTV News following a press conference in New York in December. “I think he’s already won Best New Artist, to me. His journey is what I’m really excited about.”
