After President Obama introduced the world to his singing talents last Thursday with a rendition of Rev. Al Green's "Let's Stay Together," MTV News hit the ground to see what people thought of his brief, but strong performance. Not that he needs our approval, of course. The fundraiser alone brought in a whopping $1.5 million, so he won either way.

For the most part people were amused. “It sounded really good, it’s one of my favorite songs," Felicia Bullinger, 20, told us in Times Square. "I was surprised because he did it front of the whole world, so that’s kind of crazy.”

“He was pretty good, he has like soul when he sings, which is interesting,” Tonya Deodath, 18, a student said. Tonya even had a theory on what sparked the president to bust out his singing chops, “Maybe Michelle put him up to it, maybe she egged him on or maybe his kids prompted him to do it.”

Even an 'American Idol' music producer gave the President a passing score. Michael Orland, an associate music producer on the show, told MTV News his vocals would get him into Hollywood Week. One thing almost everyone agreed on as President Obama gears up for his re-election campaign was their pleasure at seeing more of the president’s informal side, “I think its good he’s being a little personal with everybody and being a little silly, it doesn’t hurt to be silly sometimes," Tonya told us.

One girl liked his performance so much, she started wondering what song she'd sing with the President if she ever had a chance to do some karaoke with the commander-in-chief. "I would love to take President Obama to karaoke. I would make him sing “Sexy And I Know It” by LMFAO," Jamie Dahlquist, 24, said.

Oddly enough, Jamie wasn’t the only one who chose LMFAO. At a separate time, Tonya told us, “It''d be pretty funny to hear him sing something from like LMFAO. That'd be hilarious. It's not everyday you hear the president sing something like that so that'd be pretty cool.”
